We are thrilled to announce that St Modwen Environmental Trust is to provide funding for a group of Birmingham University design students to take part in an exciting project based at The Hayes. The project regulator is ENTRUST and Staffordshire Wildlife Trust will be providing advice and guidance.


The purpose is to design and construct an all ability access ramp, and a pedestrian bridge, providing access for all. The bridge will be positioned over a small stream which is noted by the Wildlife Trust for its rare unmanaged woody debris habitat.


Surrounding meadows, locally listed woodland. and a regional site of geological interest will also become accessible. They can then be enjoyed by local community groups and individuals who are unable to get to them now, due to the steep topography of the site.

Over the last 30 years, many people have made The Hayes their home, enjoying the beauty of the place, the elegant surroundings, the relaxed environment and   the opportunity to initiate and take part in the programme of activities and  events. Others have visited from time to time or provided regular support to help with the house, the grounds and the activities. Every single person who has lived or visited The Hayes has contributed to the very special feel of the place.

The Hayes is a Grade ll listed building dating from 1813. It has been used for community activities since 1972 and has proved to be a haven of peace and quiet for individuals and groups who have enjoyed the house and grounds and found inspiration for their artistic and meditative activities. The Hayes has also opened its doors over the years for charity events and art and craft exhibitions.

The Hayes has welcomed the community to share arts, recreation and environ-mental activities for over 30 years.

The Friends of the Hayes has been set up as a response to those who said they wished to become more involved with the activities at The Hayes both as visitors and in helping The Hayes and the programme of activities to develop and grow.
